Sewing for Beginners: Learn to Sew Classes in Castle Rock

Introductory sewing classes help students get comfortable with their machines and are the perfect first step into textile arts.

Participants:

  • Learn the parts and basic maintenance of a sewing machine

  • Practice threading, winding a bobbin, and stitching straight lines

  • Work through simple practice projects

  • Leave with enough knowledge to start sewing at home

Project-Based Sewing and Beginner Quilting Workshops

These focused sessions are the best way to start quilting for beginners and guide students through specific, easy quilting projects and sewing patterns. In these classes, students:

  • Measure and cut fabric accurately

  • Piece and assemble quilt blocks (like the Block Coasters class)

  • Install zippers and finish seams

  • Gain confidence following patterns and instructions

Fiber art workshops introduce knot-based designs and decorative pieces, such as Macrame Plant Hangers and Wall Hangings.

Participants:

  • Learn key macrame knots and pattern repeats

  • Create small wall hangings or similar projects

  • Explore texture and design using cord and rope

  • Experience fiber art as a calming, meditative practice

Textile & Fiber Art classes complement Crafts and 3D Art, and offer Castle Rock makers a welcoming space to learn skills that can be used for many years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there local quilting clubs, sewing groups, or community meetups in Douglas County?

While Tri Arts Project doesn’t host an official club, our small-group classes are the perfect way to connect with the local quilting and fiber arts community in a friendly, supportive setting right here in Castle Rock. Our focused classes, like Quilting: Block Coasters, offer a short, fun gathering to meet fellow makers.

Do I need to know how to sew or quilt before joining a class?

No! Most of our Textile & Fiber Arts classes, including Sewing for Beginners and Macrame classes, are designed for absolute beginners. You can also rent a machine for our quilting sessions, which is the easiest way to start quilting without a large initial investment.

Are supplies included in the fee for Macrame and Quilting classes?

The required fabric, thread, or cord for project completion is often included in the material fee. For Quilting and Project-Based Sewing, we offer affordable sewing machine rental if you do not own one, making it easy to jump right in.

Do you offer multi-day textile retreats or workshops?

Our classes are structured as intensive, project-based classes (typically 3–4 hours long), allowing you to complete a finished item like a set of Quilted Coasters or a Macrame Wall Hanging in a single session. This high-focus format provides the skill-building of a retreat without the time commitment.
