Rhonda Shanahan

Rhonda Shanahan started The Whimsical Chair as an upholstery hobby in 2009. By 2014 it turned into a full-time business in Castle Rock, CO.

She loves helping clients give new life to their family heirlooms. She takes great pride in restoring a piece of furniture with a story and is sentimental in her client’s homes. Antique and vintage furniture is made to last and be reupholstered. She enjoys the creative process of designing furniture to be unique and one-of-a-kind for her client’s homes.

In 2021 Rhonda started teaching upholstery and soft furnishing workshops at her workroom in Castle Rock, Colorado. She has been sewing her whole life. She wanted to share her passion for sewing and creating soft furnishings with students. She teaches everything from upholstering with leather and fabric to making lampshades and pillows. She’s excited to continue to add new classes every year. She is also an instructor at the Custom Workroom Conference and Workroom Tech. The biggest compliment for her is referrals from clients and students.

At Tri Arts Project, Rhonda teaches upholstery, leather work, lampshade making, and soft furnishings. Her classes focus on practical skills, clear instruction, and restoring pieces with care.
