Biography
Creativity has been a companion in my life for as long as I can remember. I am a “technique explorer” and I believe that’s why mixed media is so appealing to me. I love the quote from artist Nancy Reyner – “mixed media is not just a technique; it’s a philosophical approach that embraces the chaos and beauty of combining various elements into a cohesive whole.”
While my art continues to evolve, I feel inspired to take mixed media in new directions via collages and handmade books. As I create, I strive to pair the familiar with the unexpected. My art is very personal, and I believe each piece tells a story, creates a feeling, or asks a question.
My collages combine acrylics, handmade paper, monoprints, as well as collage and textural elements. My hope is that my collage art finds someone who looks closer at the piece to see the unexpected details and in doing so sees something that draws them in, speaks to them in some way, and makes them smile.
Book making grew out of my affinity for decorative paper and not being able to find the kind of notebook I was looking for in a store. I decided to make my own notebook and it was love at first book binding. Making a book from start to finish is creative and empowering. A handmade notebook is the perfect companion for your thoughts. Blank books take on a life of their own, collecting memories and ideas.
Finally, I am a workshop facilitator helping people learn new skills and have a creative “art experience”. Creativity is good for our wellbeing and I believe you don’t BECOME an artist; you remember how to BE an artist. I strive to give people permission to be playful, perfectly imperfect, curious, and in-the-moment.
