Biography
Sandy spent the majority of her adult life living in Colorado and working in the fine wine import business. She traveled extensively throughout the wine producing world, tasting wine and touring properties, always as a student and often as an educator. There is art in wine.
Sandy is primarily a self-taught artist. Being the wife of a custom builder, she had many opportunities for artistic endeavors and designed and crafted leaded stained glass windows for each of their houses. After retirement there were finally available hours to dedicate to self-refection, self-expression and opening new areas of the mind. She has always been fascinated with the magic of watermedia and decided to learn to paint. Having wintered in Belize for many years she was invited to join a small group of women artists who painted on Ambergris Caye. Currently the groups’ members have migrated to different parts of the world, but continue to be in touch, by social media and share many ideas and artworks. Her work is now influenced by many fine Colorado and National Water Media artists, with whom she has studied in workshop. Sandy continues to seek inspiration through local and national artists, online media and through reading. She is a Signature Member and former Director of Workshops for the Colorado Watercolor Society, as well as co- delegate for the Western Federation of Watercolor societies.
Sandy loves to explore different products and techniques. She often works in the abstract and has found her own voice by working intuitively and many times in the nonobjective. Starting with a blank slate; adding shape, form, color, line & texture until the painting takes on its own voice. She has been juried into numerous exhibits and has been awarded various achievement awards in the process.
