Constructing Compelling Fictional Characters

Write Characters Readers Can't Forget: A Fun Fiction Writing Workshop

Bring your characters to life on the page! Constructing Compelling Fictional Characters at Tri Arts Project is a dynamic 2-session writing course for adults (Ages 18+) ready to write richer, more compelling fiction. Led by author Julie Cordova, participants learn a fun and fast approach to developing deep, complex characters that truly draw readers in. Whether you're writing your first story or refining an ongoing project, this class will transform how you think about character.

Designed for beginners, this 2-session Saturday course runs August 22 and 29. Students bring their own note-taking materials — no other supplies required.

What You'll Build in This Character Writing Course

  • Character Camera Lenses: Explore multiple "camera lens" perspectives to see your characters from new angles and unlock surprising story possibilities.
  • Hopes & Dreams: Discuss what your characters want from life — their aspirations and emotional cores that drive compelling narrative choices.
  • Wants & Needs: Develop your characters' internal wants and external needs, the classic tension that makes fictional people feel real and relatable.
