Learn Pysanky (Ukrainian Egg Decorating)

Wax, Dye, and Tradition: Create Beautiful Ukrainian Pysanky Eggs This Fall

Discover the ancient art of Ukrainian egg decorating! Learn Pysanky (Ukrainian Egg Decorating) at Tri Arts Project introduces adults (Ages 16+) to the beautiful batik tradition of pysanky — creating intricate patterns on eggs using beeswax and dyes. Led by instructor Leslie Barstad, this 2-session beginner class walks you through the complete process from pencil sketch to finished egg. All supplies are provided for a truly unique artistic experience.

Designed for beginners, this 2-session Thursday course runs November 5 and 12. All art supplies are fully included — bring an optional apron or clothes that may get stained.

What You'll Learn in This Pysanky Class

  • Wax-Resist Egg Decorating: Apply the complete pysanky process: sketching a pencil design, applying beeswax with a kistka stylus, dyeing in progressive colors, and removing the wax to reveal your finished artwork.
  • Egg Finishing Techniques: Apply appropriate finishing techniques to properly seal and preserve your completed Ukrainian-style decorative egg as a lasting keepsake.
