The Castle Rock Public Art Commission in partnership with the Town of Castle Rock and private donations has completed its latest installation of public art at Rock Park. Wednesday, July 22, the Town will host a dedication celebration for the three new steel sculptures titled “Big Drive”, featuring cattle standing nearly 10 feet tall. The sculptures are a celebration of the cattle drive tradition through Castle Rock and a nod to the rich history of our area.

Artists Don Kennell & Lisa Adler designed and created these cattle, then performed their own cattle drive bringing the sculptures to Castle Rock from their studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Don makes design drawings and leads the fabrication crew. Lisa focuses on community engagement. Our designs draw people in, to develop a relationship that connects the viewer to the place and the art becomes a part of a person’s experience. This synergy between the location, the artwork and viewer is significant. It is the goal of public art: to bring art into peoples’ lives.

Join us at this family-friendly event as we celebrate this exciting addition to the Town’s public art collection and recognize the artists, community partners, donors, and many individuals whose vision and support helped bring the project to life. The dedication will include brief remarks, recognition of project partners, an opportunity to view the sculpture and meet the artists, light refreshments and fun giveaways.
